The following gives a brief resumé of how the Volkskerk van Afrika was started in Cape Town: – Joseph John Henry Forbes, fifth son of John and Helena Forbes, of Heatherdale Farm Wesleyan School and Mission Station, Rondebosch Flats, after his spiritual awakening in 1896, which was later further helped by a visit from Gipsy Smith , and after a long probation, first as principal of the Wesleyan Day School, West London, now Athlone, then catechist, then evangelist, was admitted on the recommendation of the Rev. G. Robson, on about five years’ probation for the Wesleyan Methodist Ministry in 1913, at the Port Elizabeth Conference.
